Taxing Illegal Drugs
How States Dabble in Drugs and Why They Shouldn't; Policy Study 357

For around $8.00, you can get a gram of marijuana most places in the United States. Most of this is profit. It's not necessary to be a dealer in order to get a piece of the potpie; in fact, 21 states are already carving themselves a slice.

While calling to find Georgia's Marijuana Tax Stamp Application 877-423-6711 on Feb 14 I was connected with a nice gentleman Frank Oconnell(GA department of revenue tax policy and law advisor) who would call me back yesterday. Today I was able through 30 minutes on phone to be able to get in touch with Mr. Oconnell and find out that he had asked the GA Attorney General. Through his conversation he was told that they could not enforce this law in GA because of the DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE OF MONTANA v. KURTH RANCH decision.

The John Locke Foundation is a 501(c)(3) research institute and is funded solely from voluntary contributions from individuals, corporations, and charitable foundations.
JLF’s Vision
The John Locke Foundation envisions a North Carolina of responsible citizens, strong families, and successful communities committed to individual liberty and limited, constitutional government.
JLF’s Mission
The John Locke Foundation employs research, journalism, and outreach programs to transform government through competition, innovation, personal freedom, and personal responsibility. JLF seeks a better balance between the public sector and private institutions of family, faith, community, and enterprise.
